Brenda Taylor Interview |
Scope & Content |
Brenda Taylor interview, 15-16 October 2013. Digital MP4, viewing time 00:06:45. 00:08Values: hard work, "the alchemy of effort", you may not be the most talented in the world but if you work hard it will take you a long way 00:26Life lesson: value of hard work, the satisfaction and the pleasure you get from sharing it with other people, especially the people you've worked with and that you've gone through it all with, it's worth a lot, as a kid I used to work alone a lot but with this team I learned the value of doing it with other people 01:06Would you do anything differently: at the time I remember thinking to myself - no excuses, no regrets, so that meant I had to do the best I could at the time and don't look back and regret anything 01:38What was the mood of the team: just down to business, focused on what we had to do, this is my job 01:55How special was it to be the first Canadian women to win a rowing Gold: for me it was a big deal to be the first, youngest of 5 siblings so I never got to be the first at anything 02:14On community and teamwork: both quite huge, community and teamwork, we were all quite different, we all brought our different strengths to the boat and we all had our weaknesses, I think we complimented each other really well and we learned from each other and that made us strong as a team 02:38What did your team learned from winning the 4's: very relaxed for the eights, not necessarily anything I learned from the 4, it was more a matter of that's over, that's done, we've been to the start line, now we can just enjoy the 8, still focussed 03:00With the first one was there alot of pressure: yes, but it was internal pressure 03:49What went into your decision to give the medal to Jennifer: because she earned it, she worked for it, you win the Gold medal not just on the day you race but in the work beforehand and Jen had been a huge part of that, if she hadn't been in that boat changes are we wouldn't have won, she deserved it and earned it 04:25How special is it to be the only women's coxless fours to win Gold: I wish we weren't the only one, I wish there was another one and I wish they still had it in the Olympics because it's a great event, it was a great race, it's a great boat, it's fun to row, offers thing that the pair and the 8 don't offer 04:50On being inducted to the CSHoF: quite a big honour, just looking through the list of everyone who is already in there are people who I remember as a kid who are sports heroes and people that as an athlete I really respected, to be recognized alongside people like that is pretty cool 05:51Welcome to the Hall |
